Public speaking can be a huge feat for a lot of people. You could be on stage frozen in fear and just lost for words. The good thing is there’s hope for everyone. Even introverted, shy, and timid individuals can be great public speakers.
Today, we have invited Sally Prosser, an excellent voice and presentation coach who helps women release their best voice and embrace public speaking with confidence and joy. She is a former TV news reporter, company spokesperson, and qualified speech and drama teacher that has had extensive experience and has lots of knowledge about all things voice and presentation.
In this episode, Sally shares with us how to conquer fear and stage fright into becoming a confident, authentic, and honest public speaker. She will also share with us tips and tricks whether you’re public speaking on stage or virtually. And how a connection with your listeners is more important than just memorizing what you have to say. Tune in and learn how to grow as a public speaker and still be YOU.
[03:14] How important is public speaking in developing your personal brand?
[05:03] Your voice can convey honesty and authenticity.
[06:11] Your voice is like a musical instrument, you can learn to play it.
[09:25] In public speaking, we don’t just need to prepare our content, we also need to prepare ourselves.
[12:11] Prepare yourself with the energy triangle, and the first part of this energy triangle is called the mindset.
[15:17] Our inner voice is the megaphone for our real voice.
[15:44] And then the next part of the energy triangle is waking up the body.
[17:22] The third part of the energy triangle is the fuel and that’s the breath.
[18:52] How to get yourself skilled up for next-level public speaking.
[21:30] A trick to memorizing your script.
[23:28] Connection over content and inspiration over information.
[24:54] When speaking online, think of lighting, framing, and eye contact.
[28:09] Perfectionism or pleasing people is a waste, but the genuine connection is good public speaking.
[30:29] In sharing on social media, do not get caught up in the followers and the vanity metrics but always go back to what you want to share, your content.
[32:53] Just open up your creativity, and let go of the shackles of people’s judgment.
[38:46] Even introverts, shy, quiet, and timid people can be great public speakers.
[39:22] It’s not about you. It’s really not about you. Everyone’s not looking at you. You’re looking at everyone and your voice and your body is really just a channel. – Sally
